Yesterday I had a good cry while watching reply-videos from Squirrel’s fans. I found a few fan-made animations, including a Spanish language translation of a Squirrel video. I found many “duets,” which are split-screen response videos. Viewers often tell me that Squirrel brings them to tears. In duets, they show me:
Another common refrain from fans is that Squirrel helps them feel their feelings. And this, I believe, is the essence of my offering: To help people reconnect with themselves.
I was watching reply videos in order to include some fan excerpts in my GoFundMe launch video. The video is imperfect, as is the GoFundMe writeup, which ballooned to six or seven drafts before I finally hit publish. Squirrel’s advice to me, in the launch video, was simply to begin.
I’ve launched my GoFundMe fundraiser.
I like to think of it as a barn-raising. The barn is a great big healing message about self-acceptance and reconnection. I have a vision for this barn, that involves millions of people passing through it. But I need help making it taller, sturdier, more beautiful.
People make a barn-raising possible. People can show up to the barn-raising and help me lift the walls. Or, they can tell their neighbors about the barn-raising. And that’s what we need--many neighbors, to lift this barn skyward.
Many hands makes light work.
I’m inviting you to help me make a damnable racket about love. I cannot do it alone. The single best thing you could do in this moment is to share this fundraiser in your circles.
These fundraisers work on shares, and they work on momentum, and we’re off to a great start, 10% of a $25,000 goal in less than 24 hours. Things are already happening. Let’s raise this barn.
Squashed with gratitude and gladness,
Evan & Squirrel
